Democratic Money
The open space to imagine how money could be more equal, more fair, more human
For hundreds of years, money for communities has been collected and distributed in the same way.
Money is collected from the community and then distributed back to the community to buy the things the community needs. Most communities have very little say in how this money is distributed, and that seems strange —as they are the ones most likely to know what they need!
This disconnect can leave communities feeling cut off from decision-making, powerless and disenfranchised.
It’s a bit like giving your grocery money to someone else so that they can do your shopping for you.
And yet they don’t ask what you need or want!
You will get groceries, but are what you are given the right things for you?
We believe there is another way!
All over the world—and right here in the UK—people are taking back the power over those decisions.
Organisations that want their communities to feel connected and participate in their own future are empowering their communities to shape, create, and manage those resources for the benefit of everybody.
It's a big shift!
But one that can work for all types of communities- from local authorities to clubs and charities to banks and businesses. BIG or small - public or private. Each solution is different - because every community is different.
If you are here, we think you are trying to solve this problem in your community.
To help you, we have created this free resource with tools, hacks, and inspirations so you can find a solution that suits you and the community you love.
